Paranormal News of the Week
World’s first exhibition of library and possessions of famous occultist John Dee

A mathematician, magician, astronomer, astrologer, explorer, occultist, imperialist, alchemist and spy, John Dee was also one of Tudor England’s most fervent scholars of cryptography – the art or science of making and breaking codes. Now, the intriguing and mysterious Dee is to be revealed to the public through his remarkable personal library for the first time in history.

A never seen before selection from 100 surviving books once owned by the man will go on display in “Scholar, courtier, magician: The lost library of John Dee” at the Royal College of Physicians in January 2016. Dee’s library was once one of the finest private libraries in Europe and today The RCP holds the largest known collection of works formerly owned by him. They passed to the RCP via a family bequest in 1680 and have never been publicly displayed together before.

Joining the bibliographic treasure trove will be a selection of Dee’s possessions, which were dispersed after his death in 1609. From the collection of the British Museum comes a crystal ball for researching the occult and conversing with spirits, a ‘magic disc’ for contacting angels and ‘magical mirror’ for conjuring visions. From the Science Museum is a ‘scrying mirror’ for predicting the future and John Dee’s own crystal, which he claimed was given to him personally by the angel Uriel, who also ‘instructed’ Dee on how to make the philosopher’s stone. Dee is most well known to students of the occult as one of the fathers, along with Edward Kelley, of the Enochian school of ritual magic.

Scholar, courtier, magician: The lost library of John Dee is at the museum of the Royal College of Physicians in London from January 18th to July 29th of this year. The exhibition and museum are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Admission is free.

Oldest-known Jurassic dinosaur species discovered in Wales

Researchers from the University of Portsmouth, University of Manchester and National Museum Wales have discovered a new species of dinosaur believed to be the oldest known Jurassic-period creature of its kind ever discovered in the UK. The new species, which was discovered in southern Wales, was named Dracoraptor hanigani, a name selected to honor the country’s national symbol, the dragon, the research team explained in a statement. The first part of the name, Dracoraptor, means “dragon robber,” while the hanigani part was selected to recognize the men who discovered the fossils, Nick and Rob Hanigan.

Based on their analysis of the fossils, paleobiologist Dr. David Martill and his colleagues have placed Dracoraptor hanigani at the beginning of the Jurassic Period, about 201 million years ago. These fossils are the most complete theropod ever discovered in Wales, according to the researchers, and could even be among the oldest known Jurassic dinosaurs in the UK, or even the world.

Dr John Nudds, from The University of Manchester, said, “It’s pretty rare to discover a completely new dinosaur species – in fact this is only the fourth one to be discovered in the UK since 1980.”

Deep crevice revealed at bottom of Loch Ness

Previously, the UK’s second largest loch, Loch Ness, was measured at 813 feet deep. But 43-year-old tourist boat skipper Keith Stewart has found a crevice about nine miles east of Inverness and he has measured it with state of the art sonar equipment at 889 feet.

Said Stewart, “I measured it with our state of the art 3D equipment at 889 feet, which is 77 feet deeper than the previous recorded deepest point called Edwards’ Deep. I don’t yet know how long it is, but I have gone back several times over the abyss and I have verified my measurements. It gets deeper from 825 feet to the recorded depth. It is only about a few hundred yards offshore whereas previous sonar searches have traditionally been down the middle of the loch.”

It is possible that an underwater earthquake opened this anomaly in recent times; Loch Ness lies along the Great Glen fault, a portion of a larger fault that stretches from Canada to Norway. As recently as 2013, there has been a low magnitude earthquake along the fault and the Loch – a year, coincidentally, during which no sightings of the Loch Ness monster were reported.

World’s most ancient site to get a facelift

The world’s oldest monuments may soon get an image makeover. A new project will promote and preserve Göbekli Tepe, home to the most ancient temple structures ever discovered. Turkey hopes to eventually boost tourism at the site, which is in a region where tourism has declined because of the nearby Syrian conflict and refugee crisis.

Less than a decade ago, the hilltop was reachable only via a bumpy ride on a rough dirt road. The occasional visitor might be shown around by the leader of the excavation himself. Today, tour buses sometimes unload hundreds of visitors each day in front of a small visitor’s center, and Turkish travel agencies promote special Göbekli Tepe tours. There’s a gift shop and parking lot, and Turkey’s largest archaeological museum opened recently in the nearby city of Urfa.

Though excavation and research at the site are funded by the German Archaeological Institute and the German Research Foundation, funds from the Dogus Group, a Turkish conglomerate that includes tourism and media companies, will go toward building a new, larger visitor’s center and protective canopies for the structures that have already been uncovered, along with walkways and fencing to help manage tourism’s impact on the ancient enclosures.

Since excavations began in 1995, the site in southeastern Turkey has changed the way archaeologists think about the origins of civilization. Its circular structures, with their elaborately carved stones and distinctive, T-shaped pillars, are more than 12,000 years old – older than the invention of agriculture or even pottery.

Egyptian Pyramid Scans Reveal New Anomalies

New anomalies have been detected on Egypt’s pyramids by researchers scanning the monuments with innovative technologies, the Ministry of Antiquities said. According to preliminary results, thermal “points of interest” were observed on the northern facade of the Great Pyramid at Giza, and on the west face of Red pyramid in Dahshur.

Scheduled to last one year, the project, called ScanPyramids, uses a mix of innovative technologies to identify the presence of unknown internal structures and cavities. It is carried out by a team from Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering and the Paris-based organization HIP Institute, under the authority of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.

This news comes on the heels of the discovery of what might be hidden chambers in the tomb of Egypt’s most famous pharaoh, King Tutankhamun, which had also been recently scanned during the same project. Archaeologists have speculated that Tut’s tomb was originally built to be the final resting place of Queen Nefertiti, but was appropriated for his use after his sudden and untimely death at the age of 19.

Astonishing Legends: Episode 030 – Kincaid’s Cave in the Grand Canyon

On March 12, 1909, The Arizona Gazette published an article titled, “G. E. Kincaid Reaches Yuma.” It was a short announcement that Mr. “Kincaid” was only the second person to make trip down the entire course of the Colorado River. Twenty-four days later, on April 5, 1909, the newspaper ran a follow-up to their first article on the adventurous Mr. Kincaid. This article reported that along with G.E. Kinkaid, a Professor S.A. Jordan and a team from the Smithsonian had investigated a large network of tunnels and rooms, some filled with ancient mummies and artifacts that did not appear to be from the Western Hemisphere…And that was the end of the story. No further stories were printed by the newspaper, no knowledge by the Smithsonian about any such expedition, and no one knows if “Kinkaid” or “Jordan” ever existed, let alone the cave itself. That leaves us with two questions: is this story real, and if real, what would be the implications?

Editor’s Note:

This week I recieved an email from an Anon that lives in Beavercreek, Ohio, with a peculiar problem: His house is haunted. Living in the home with him are his wife, stepson, and family dog, just a few minutes outside of Dayton. He mentions that the house, the childhood home and inheritance of his spouse, has had three deaths occur there since it was built in the 60’s, all of whom were related to her; and that his wife, before moving in, had warned him of the supernatural activity that happened there. He basically asks for what he calls a “Paranormal Referral.”

“We’re not going crazy or super scared all the time I’ll just say we need some clarity and acknowledgement that this is real.
We have all seen things that can’t be rationale[sic] explained even the dog.
I have absolutely seen things move with out being touched and we have all seen shadow like figures.
I’m familiar with the local organizations that investigate I’m just seeing if you know anyone maybe a little more underground and more true to the investigations.”

If anyone in the Dayton/Beavercreek area of Ohio could pass along a good word to our fellow Anon about paranormal organizations, or if they themselves are paranormal investigators, please leave a message in the thread below. /x/ has usually been good about delivering on local spooky info, so any help given would be appreciated.
